A operação foi desencadeada pela Polícia Civil da comarca de Santa Rosa do Sul, durante a madrugada desta sexta-feira, dia 05, e terminou com a prisão de três suspeitos de envolvimento no homicídio de Edson da Cunha. O crime foi registrado em fevereiro deste ano, depois que a vítima de 33 anos, havia desaparecido. O corpo de Edson da Cunha, foi localizado no dia 28 de fevereiro na localidade de Novo Horizonte, em Santa Rosa do Sul, no interior de uma plantação de eucaliptos.
Depois de uma ampla investigação a polícia civil daquela comarca prendeu o trio suspeito do crime. Dois suspeitos foram presos perto de uma escola no bairro Nova Brasília, em Sombrio. Durante a operação duas mulheres que atuavam no tráfico de entorpecentes também foram presas.
A polícia também localizou em uma casa noturna que fica na rodovia SC-449, entre Sombrio a Jacinto Machado, o terceiro envolvido no crime. O local era usado por ele para o tráfico de drogas, e também para a pratica de prostituição. Segundo a polícia civil, o homem ordenou o assassinato da vítima que era usaria de drogas, e possuía dívida com o tráfico.
