Um monumento construído com aço da Ponte Hercílio Luz e que homenageia os tropeiros foi instalado em Pedras Grandes, na Rodovia SC-390, na divisa do município com Orleans. A localidade onde está a nova atração turística da cidade de Pedras Grandes dá acesso às comunidades de Cachoeira Feia, Santaninha e Trempe. A obra de arte é composta de um tripé na forma de uma pirâmide de 5 metros de altura que sustenta uma chaleira, alusão ao modo que os tropeiros aqueciam a água para o chimarrão ou preparo dos alimentos. Os tropeiros desciam a Serra do 12 e passavam por estas localidades.
O prefeito Agnaldo Filippi (Progressistas) explica que o chamado fogão trempe deu origem ao nome de uma das comunidades do município. A localidade de Trempe, assim denominada por estar localizada justamente em um caminho das tropas, e rememora os primórdios de Pedras Grandes. Antes da chegada dos primeiros imigrantes à Colônia Azambuja, em 1877, o atual território de Pedras Grandes já era ocupado pelos índios Xokleng e era passagem de bandeirantes, paulistas e gaúchos que levavam bois e charque do Sul para São Paulo.
