Nos últimos dias, o estado de Santa Catarina tem sentido os impactos das queimadas que ocorrem na região centro-norte do Brasil, além d Bolívia e Paraguai. A combinação entre uma intensa massa de ar seco e quente e a fumaça das queimadas tem causado uma piora significativa na qualidade do ar, principalmente nas regiões Oeste e Extremo Oeste catarinense.
A Secretaria de Estado da Proteção e Defesa Civil (SDC), o Instituto do Meio Ambiente (IMA) e a Secretaria de Estado da Saúde (SES) emitiram uma nota conjunta alertando para os riscos à saúde pública, decorrentes da baixa umidade relativa do ar e da poluição atmosférica. Desde domingo 8, o estado está sob um Aviso Meteorológico, com atenção voltada para as possíveis consequências à saúde, como desidratação, agravamento de doenças respiratórias e cardiovasculares, especialmente entre crianças, idosos e pessoas com doenças preexistentes.
De acordo com a Central de Monitoramento da Defesa Civil de Santa Catarina, o transporte da fumaça tem sido acompanhado em tempo real. “Estamos monitorando constantemente as condições e o avanço da fumaça pelo estado. A situação requer atenção redobrada, principalmente nas regiões mais afetadas pela baixa umidade e pela poluição. A orientação é que a população siga as recomendações de proteção, especialmente as pessoas que fazem parte de grupos de risco”, afirmou o gerente do monitoramento e alerta Frederico Rudorff.
Segundo o Instituto do Meio Ambiente (IMA), a fumaça trazida pelas queimadas intensificou a poluição atmosférica. Estações de monitoramento do ar, localizadas nos municípios de Tubarão e Capivari de Baixo, registraram concentrações de partículas inaláveis (MP10) entre 80 e 130 μg/m³, valores que configuram um Índice de Qualidade do Ar entre moderado e ruim.
“Além da fumaça das queimadas alguns outros fatores também podem colaborar com o atual cenário como: a direção do vento que transporta os poluentes, a hora do dia que também pode influenciar na qualidade do ar e as condições atmosféricas como tempo seco que favorece a permanência do poluente em suspensão ou chuvoso que possibilita a limpeza do ar removendo partículas de poeira, poluentes e outras impurezas”, explica o diretor de Controle e Passivos Ambientais do IMA, Diego Hemkemeier Silva.
A Secretaria de Estado da Saúde alerta para que a população fique atenta para os sintomas que a baixa qualidade do ar podem causar: irritação nos olhos, nariz e garganta, além de cansaço e tosse seca. Grupos vulneráveis estão mais suscetíveis a problemas mais graves.
