A central de monitoramento a Secretaria da Proteção e Defesa Civil vem registrando em Santa Catarina dias com forte presença de fumaça no ar. Esse fenômeno é causado pelo transporte de fumaça das queimadas em outras regiões do país, como Amazônia e Centro-Oeste, que é trazida pelos ventos de norte e, em particular, pelo Jato de Baixos Níveis (JBN).
“O JBN é um fluxo de ar quente e úmido da Amazônia, que, em condições pré-frontais, intensifica o transporte de fumaça para o Sul do Brasil, especialmente nos dias que antecedem a chegada de frentes frias”, explica o monitoramento da Defesa Civil.
Em Santa Catarina, a fumaça tem sido percebida principalmente durante o entardecer e o amanhecer, quando o céu assume uma coloração avermelhada. Além disso, imagens de satélite têm captado essa concentração de fumaça sobre todo o estado. A presença de fumaça no ar pode afetar a visibilidade e prejudicar a qualidade do ar, representando um risco para a saúde pública, especialmente para as populações mais vulneráveis, como crianças, idosos e pessoas com doenças respiratórias ou cardíacas.

Fenômeno intensificado pelo El Niño
O aumento das queimadas nas regiões amazônica e central do Brasil pode ser atribuído à atuação do El Niño. O fenômeno intensificou as chuvas no Sul do Brasil, enquanto reduziu as precipitações nas regiões amazônica e central, justamente no período em que as chuvas deveriam ser mais frequentes. Assim, a última estação chuvosa na região central do país foi mais seca do que o normal, agravando as condições que favorecem o surgimento de queimadas.
Mudança no tempo nos próximos dias
De acordo com os meteorologistas da Defesa Civil, nos próximos dias, a passagem de uma frente fria pelo estado, entre a noite de quarta-feira, 4 e quinta-feira, 5, deve trazer um alívio temporário para a concentração de fumaça, devido à chuva e à mudança nos ventos, que passarão a soprar do Sul com a chegada de uma massa de ar seco e frio. Contudo, a partir de sexta-feira, 6 e durante o fim de semana, os ventos devem voltar a soprar da direção Norte, trazendo novamente a fumaça para Santa Catarina.
A longo prazo, espera-se que a presença de fumaça na região continue até que as queimadas sejam controladas ou até que a estação chuvosa retorne a essas áreas, o que deve ocorrer entre a primavera e o verão.
Recomendações para a população
Diante dessa situação, a Secretaria de Estado da Proteção e Defesa Civil de Santa Catarina recomenda à população que adote medidas preventivas, como aumentar a ingestão de água e monitorar possíveis sintomas de irritação respiratória, como tosse, dificuldade para respirar e irritação nos olhos. Essas recomendações são particularmente importantes para as populações mais vulneráveis.
